MMRC Unconference, June 16th, 2026

We are pleased to share an upcoming event co-organised by our Co-Director Fran as part of the Mighty Mini Research Collective (MMRC), in collaboration with Shortwork.

The MMRC Unconference, taking place on Tuesday, 16 June 2026 in Stockport, is a small, participant-led gathering designed for independent researchers, freelancers, and small research organisations. The event aims to create a space for meaningful exchange, practical learning, and peer support across the independent research community.

Unlike traditional conferences, the unconference format places participants at the centre of the agenda. Sessions are shaped by attendees on the day, allowing discussions to reflect real, current challenges and priorities. This creates opportunities for open dialogue, collaborative problem-solving, and the sharing of practical experience.

The event will include facilitated networking, informal group sessions, and space for participants to explore topics such as building sustainable research practices, navigating freelance work, and developing collaborative projects. The focus is on creating a supportive and inclusive environment where participants can connect with others facing similar opportunities and challenges.

This event will be of particular interest to those working independently in research, as well as those considering moving into freelance or consultancy-based roles.
