We are looking for a Research Assistant (RA) position for ~1 day per week (0.2 FTE) until the end of January 2025 – with an ongoing position dependent on funding.
About the role
We are conducting several mixed-method evaluations and participatory research projects for charities aiming to reduce health inequalities. In the short term the RA role will involve contributing to managing survey datasets, monitoring and improving recruitment, and generating descriptive statistics and visualizations that present insights effectively to our clients. Our surveys involve a substantial amount of open questions therefore requiring qualitative research skills such as coding and theming of free-text, as well as quantitative expertise.
Dependent on funding, ongoing work will include opportunities to develop qualitative research experience, deliver co-production with members of the public and contribute to systematic and rapid literature reviews. All team members are expected to develop research proposals and new business, communicate our impact on Linked-in, develop and deliver training for students and charities, and engage with the public and community groups.
About you
You should be currently enrolled in a PhD program, in a health-related discipline, and be able to balance your consulting responsibilities with your ongoing doctoral research. You will be experienced with using R independently to manage and clean datasets effectively, write reproducible code and documentation, and produce descriptive statistics and high-quality visualisations to communicate findings clearly. A strong commitment to confidentiality, ethics, and data protection is essential. If you additionally have experience in qualitative research methodologies and thematic analysis, or interest in learning, that would be desirable.
You will have excellent communication, organisational and IT skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team to work to tight deadlines. The ideal candidate would bring ideas and care to their work and enjoy being part of a fast-paced business looking to make a difference in the world.
